About Samurai Learner

Learning math in English — the Samurai way

Mission & Vision

Our mission is to aid Japanese students to feel confident studying math in English when learning abroad to find joy in understanding math deeply. We do so through bilingual explanations, real-world examples, and step-by-step approaches.

We believe that language, especially a universal language like math, should never be a barrier for learning.

Samurai Learner builds confidence, curiosity, and global thinking one lesson at a time.

The Story

Hi, I’m Lynn — the founder of Samurai Learner and a fellow kendo player and fencer.

I started Samurai Learner because I noticed that many newcomer Japanese students struggle with math when it’s taught in English. Even students who are good at math in Japan can feel lost when unfamiliar English words and phrases appear in textbooks, tests, or videos. Math, however, is a universal language. It's beautiful and precise, and it shouldn’t be limited by language barriers. Japanese students are often ahead in math skills, but moving to the U.S. shouldn’t mean they lose that momentum or confidence.

As someone who grew up in a bilingual environment and loves both math and teaching, I wanted to create a resource that bridges this gap. Samurai Learner was created to help Japanese students continue advancing in math, while also building confidence in English. By combining bilingual explanations with self-paced lessons, videos, and guides, we make sure students can understand concepts deeply, apply English to other subjects, and feel confident in their abilities.

We don’t just teach math; we help students keep progressing, stay confident, and embrace both languages as tools for learning and growth.

Just like in kendo, learning takes practice, discipline, and spirit — that’s the samurai mindset behind everything we do.
